The Situation

In June 2014, MATCHPOINT signed a 12-month performance based contract to reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) at Audubon Estates community in McDonough, GA.

Water is supplied to this community from Henry County and is purchased at $12.74 per 1000 gallons; therefore, minimalizing loss was a priority.

Prior to MATCHPOINT being contracted to execute this service, the monthly water loss was approximately 1,000,000 gallons at a cost of approximately $13,000 per month ($156,000 a year). Through daily monitoring of the revenue meter and the execution of leak detection services, many leaks have been identified by MATCHPOINT and consequently repaired by the Estates.

In January and February of 2015, the Estates’ water bill was reduced by over $22,000.00 with more than 1.7 million gallons of water being saved during the same period.

The Action

On October 20th, 2014, after reviewing the daily remote data, MATCHPOINT was alerted to an obvious increase in flow.

Leak detection crews were dispatched immediately to investigate and eradicate the problem.

Within 41-hours, the leak was identified, pinpointed and repaired. The split in the pipe measured 11.5 inches long and 0.19 inches wide. See photo of the leaking pipe below:

The Results

Water was leaking at an approximate rate of 960 gallons per minute, yet the leak never surfaced.

Without the remote daily data and MATCHPOINT’s reactive response, this single leak would have cost the community a minimum of $17,500 a day.

Left undetected, the leak had the potential to cause property damage and legal repercussions.Remote monitoring of the revenue meter was the key to our success. On a daily basis, MATCHPOINT receives flow data from the revenue meter via a web based viewing platform. MATCHPOINT analyzes the data and acts as needed, addressing any flow changes and informing the customer immediately.
